Intro:
We were asked to investigate the case of the murder of Carelton Comet and use different sources of evidence to prove who the murderer was. We were given fingerprints, blood, and other pieces of evidence to analyze and help us through this process. Below, is our final product with evidence from this project to prove that the murderers were Nancy Normal and Sam Sophomore.
Content:
Karyotype - an individual's complete set of chromosomes
Pedigree - shows relationship between family members and indicates which individuals have certain genetic pathogenic variants, traits, and diseases
DNA fingerprinting gel - process by which we take DNA and run electric charge through it
Ink chromatography - method for analyzing mixtures by separating them into the chemicals from which they are made
Crime scene - any physical scene that may provide potential evidence to an investigator
First degree murder - willful, unlawful and deliberate killing that is premeditated
Reflection:
In this project, I struggled with communicating with my team. We tended to get side tracked and do our own things instead of working together to understand more about the evidence. Also, I want to work on my creativity. Many groups in our class convicted Nancy Normal. Instead of following them, I could have thought outside of the box and came up with another solution. Although I struggled in some areas, I was doing well in others. For example, I used my critical thinking skills to teach myself through the hardship and understand the aspects where I had never been taught anything before. I also did well at collaborating with my team to create our best work. My team had no prior knowledge of the forms of analyzing evidence and had to teach one another as we went along with this project.
