What is this project?
In this project, we explained the different aspects of a stroke including symptoms and ways to prevent a stroke from occurring. My group and I learned many new things by researching and asking our peers. We learned that strokes can be caused by lack of exercise and you can prevent them by lowering your blood pressure and exercising.
Before the project, our class learned about different hypokinetic diseases including a stroke, obesity, and many more. We then were assigned to a disease and told to make a poster about that disease. My group consisted of Ashley, Harrison, and Harper.
The next day, my group started to make our poster. We researched throughout the project and decorated our poster last. Not only did we learn a lot about strokes, but we also worked with new people and enhanced our communication skills.
Concepts:
Hypokinetic Disease - condition associated with too little physical activity or exercise
Cardiovascular Diseases - consists of diseases that involve the heart or blood vessels
Risk Factors - reasons why people get cardiovascular diseases
Sedentary Living - lifestyle where no physical activity or exercise is done
Reflection
This project helped me in many ways. Even though it was short, I learned a lot of new things about myself. I learned that I have great people skills and am a good communicator. For example, I made my teammates feel comfortable in the beginning of the project even though we didn't completely know one another. I also learned that I am a critical thinker. When making the poster, I had to step up and take control of the project and generate new ideas with my critical thinking skills. Although I learned my great skills, I also learned what I need to work on. First, I need to be more creative and open minded. I noticed that our project was simple and could have used another unique aspect in it. I also need to work on being more connected with my group. For example, instead of listening to music, I could have made conversation and been more involved in my teammates lives. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and am looking forward to doing more things like this in the future.
