For this project, we, as a team, had to design our own helmet that meets the basic safety requirements. Using technical sketching and Fusion 360, we had to ensure that the helmet fits the needs of the user and maintained a sense of safety.
Before starting this project, we first had to design our own indivudal 3D model of our helmet. Once we did that, which consisted of Part 1, we moved on to Part 2. Our group chose a team design and started sketches -- perspective and orthogonal. We then did research on important safety requirements for a basic helmet and incorporated what we found into our design. Once we finished our research and design, we put our final touches on our helmet.
acceleration: change in speed over a period of time
coefficient of friction: measurement of the level of friction embodied in a particular material
μ = f/N
crumple zones: areas of an object designed to deform in an impact as a means to absorb the energy of the collision
drag: term used in fluid dynamics; referred to as air resistance or fluid resistance
inertia: term used to define when an object remains still or moves in a constant direction at a constant speed
g force: force acting on a body as a result of acceleration or gravity
friction: force that resists motion when two objects or surfaces are in contact
force: influences that cause a change in movement, direction, or shape
kinetic friction (dynamic friction): occurs when two objects are moving relative to each other and rub together
Through this project, I've learned the importance and efficiency of taking a divide-and-conquer approach in group projects. I feel that I worked strongly as a Collaborator and a Critical Thinker. As a group, we divided up the work amongst each other in order to maintain an efficient work ethic. We were each able to pull our own weight and complete our tasks, which led to the overall success of the project. In addition, I helped with research and brainstormed ideas on how to incorporate what I learned into our own design in order to improve the quality. This showed my critical thinking skills.
For future projects, I could work on my skills as a Communicator and a Conscientious Learner. There were often times where I was confused on what progress we had made with our helmet design due to a lack of communication. Next time, I want to make sure that we are all on the same page by checking in with each other at the beginning of class. I also could work on putting in more effort into my work as a conscientious learner. There were times where I just completed my work without thinking about the quality of it. In the future, I want to make sure that I put in effort into every aspect of our project to ensure success for not just myself but also for my group as a whole.
