For Step 3 of our Capstone Project, our main goal was to finalize our project proposal and establish our funding. We made a presentation to the STEM board pitching the idea we are intended to achieve.
For this part of our project, we've mainly focused on our funding and financial expenses as well as organizing our ideas. We created a slideshow and made an expense table laying out how much we've spent on what materials and how much we plan on spending for our next steps, such as 3D printing. We've also updated our project proposal, changing our previous idea of growing organic instruments to focusing on implementing switchable pickups to conserve resources. Now, we plan on changing our focus to accurately 3D printing the pickguard that we've designed digitally.
An area where I showed strength was my problem solving skills as a conscientious learner. When we weren't sure how to take measurements of the part that we planned on 3D printing, I tried to think of ways we could go about this. We ended up making a mold out of tin foil so it could be flexible and easy to measure. This leads me to say that I also excelled in my leadership skills. Throughout the process of collecting data and making the presentation, I felt that I was able to take initiative when things needed to be done efficiently and effectively. I reflected a strong leadership role, which contributed to my work ethic as a conscientious learner as well. When the day of presentations to the STEM board was nearing, there were many things that were still on the agenda and needed to be done. In turn, I took it upon myself to complete such tasks in an organized fashion. Another attribute that I noticed in myself while working on this project was my communication skills. While taking initiative, I communicated with my group of what was incomplete to grasp an idea how we can be productive during class. This contributed to the efficiency of our work as a whole, allowing us to work to the best of our abilities.
Although there were many areas of strength in my work ethic, there were also some areas that I could improve on in the future. I noticed in myself that I had trouble with my character. My sense of empathy was not one of my strong suits during this project. I feel that although I was able to take initiative, there were some moments when I was being too bossy. I should have let my group members work their way and not strictly my way. In the future, I could also work on my time management. It happens too often than not that I find myself working in the last minute. There were times when my group and I did not use class time productively until we absolutely had to. This jeopardized the quality of our project because we had to pull our presentation together last minute. In the future, I want to use class time to my advantage. To prevent wasting time, I could organize a checklist of things that need to be done. This would be helpful when I find myself off track or procrastinating and prevent this by figuring out my next steps in a project.
