STEM Outdoor Space

Evidence of Work

The major problem of this project was to find a good use for the extra space in the new STEM space. It needs to be within a reasonable budget because the school has to fund it, and it has to be able to be used by all. We brainstormed ideas and we came up with a relaxation area. It has 4 benches, 2 swinging benches, two lunch tables and a water fountain. We thought this was a good idea because students could come here if they are stressed out to just relax and think about things. To accomplish this we first made blueprints on paper. We put it to scale using the dimensions of the area. The blueprinting took around 4 days. It also took a while to come up with the idea of our relaxation zone. Then we created a slide show. The slide show included a lot of information including the pros and cons of our area and the cost of the area. Then we created a 3D model using tinkercad seen below. It took around 2 days.

Here is our project slide show. It is seen below.

Content

This project really was more a design/architecture based project than true engineering. Therefore it didn't require many Physics concepts, however we did learn concepts of blueprinting and drawing to scale. This also involved using a 3D modeling software similar to CAD (computer aided design) programs used in architecture and engineering jobs. We had to consider environmental factors in our design which resulted in choosing benches with sunshades and a water feature that could be filled with a hose rather than needing to install more expensive plumbing.

Reflection

Overall this project was very interesting. I think I did very well on cooperating. I always listened to my group mates and accepted new ideas. Even if I thought something was a bad idea, I did not turn it down, I gave it a try. I think I also did well on communication. I communicated my ideas with my group very well. And luckily they listened. I think this is what made our groups project so fluent. We all communicated and cooperated with each other very well. One C I would like to work on in future projects is being a Conscientious Learner. I did not always pay close attention to the instructions so we had to re do some things. Overall I think this project went very smoothly and it was nice to focus on engineering for a change.
