The Gaslamp quarter in San Diego is the heart of nightlife! Infinite numbers of bars/clubs/eateries for your entertainment.
Check out Filippi's Prizzo Grotto and other eateries for some classic Italian American food. Little Italy also has tons of brewpubs (including Ballast Point, a local favorite) and trendy coffee shops to fill all of your post-conference caffeine needs.
Pacific Beach is the surf and party spot in San Diego. Oscar's Mexican Seafood is hands down the best fish tacos you'll ever have. Check out the pier for surfing and general craziness. Stay at the PB Surf Hostel for a cheap overnight stay in a fun environment.
Hang out with the seals on the cliffs overlooking crystal clear water, get the bourgeoiest meal of your life, and kayak sea caves. All can be had in La Jolla! Check out the Torrey Pines State Reserve for some casual hiking and seeing an endangered species of pine tree.
Check out one of the largest coastal wetlands remaining in Southern California. Walk the beach, or wetlands, and check out the visitors center to learn more about the fascinating history of the Tijuana River Valley.
