Health Insurance

Navigating the world of health insurance can be complex and confusing. If at anytime you need help working through an insurance-related problem, contact the Insurance Services center the the Student Health Center (see contact information at the bottom of this page) where a real person will help answer your questions.

All UCI students must have some form of health insurance during their enrollment at UCI.

Enrollment

The UC's offer graduate students GSHIP (Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan), the graduate version of the UC SHIP. You are automatically enrolled in GSHIP.

Waiving GSHIP (UC SHIP)

If you will be using another insurance provider whose coverage meets certain criteria, you can waive GSHIP benefits. Pay close attention to waiver deadlines as they are very strict.

Apply for a waiver: You can apply for a waiver here.

Benefits (What's Included)

GSHIP offers medical, dental, vision, and pharmacy benefits to enrollees year-round (12 months, not just 9 months for the academic year).

Coverage is offered world-wide.
