Making particle systems in Unreal Engine:
Niagra systems are found in the Create Advanced Asset > FX dropdown in Unreal
Emitters basically spit out particles like a hose. You can add a spawner by right-clicking in the Particle System window.
Anything colour coded as red is to do with the emitter, wheras green relates to particles.
You can change the preview of a material by selecting the icons in the bottom right corner of the preview window.
Holding T and then left-clicking will automatically create a texture node in the material graph.
Holding M and then left-clicking will automatically create a multiply node in the material graph.

Know the material editor, at least on a basic level
