Lecture Notes
Project 1: come up with and pitch an idea - the "What and Why Presentation"
Find and understand the context of the creative media text, preferably a string driving problem
Project 2: plan out the project for the idea
Groups can go from 2 to 8 members, and ideas/projects need to be run by lecturers who will either give it the green light or say to further develop the idea.
Make sure pitches have visuals such as screenshots/clips from other products that do something similar.
Everyone in the project has to have a key role—no "idea guy" or some kind of supporting role only.
Use the national job board for approved projects to get help from students who are looking for jobs.
Alternatively, you have the option to freelance—that is, contribute to multiple projects under your own freelance identity that you develop a context and rationale for.
Creativity is made up of relevance (context/driving problem) and novelty. Relevance creates a connection point and novelty makes it interesting. Artistry does not equal creativity, and you need both for a good project.
In-Class Activity: Reflective Questions
When/who was the last time someone inspired you?
XXXX
What was the last news/current event story that made you angry?
It'd be the story on the Coalition and how they handled Australia's internet infrastructure back in the early-to-mid 2010s, and how the NBN was delayed and $80 billion was wasted on obsolete internet technology while the Liberal National Party was in power and Tony Abbott was prime minister. I get angry every time I hear news stories of politicians undermining the interests of the citizens of Australia for their own personal gain, but especially this story made me angry considering the issues I face with internet speeds at my house (which I have to emphasize, less than 24Mbps in well-populated suburbia is nonsense).
What is something that scares you?
I've got two main fears that I can think of. A more primal fear of mine is being alone in the dark, but a fear that's more relevant to this topic is not being able to secure a sustainable career/future for myself with the certifications I gain, such as my Bachelor of Game Development. I fear that even with these certifications, I won't be able to find a place for myself and I will therefore either live paycheck-to-paycheck or just generally poor. I want to get these certifications because I want to work in an industry I enjoy while being able to sustain a good life.
What is something that you would fight/die for?

What are your personal core values?

Ideas for Major Project
Desktop escape puzzle game: A game where you need to solve a series of puzzles to complete the game. The main gameplay happens on a computer desktop and can switch to a mobile phone, and the game features a Stanley Parable-style narrator that talks throughout the game. The relevance has to do with procrastination and such, and the novelty is making it interesting with unique gameplay styles based off real things such as YouTube Shorts. The game is for people who feel they are trapped by their devices and find it extremely difficult to break out of the unhealthy routine.
