Year 8 Term2 Portraiture
Lesson 1 Charcoal & chalk skills development
Charcoal portrait
Tool
-EE pencil
-value scale
-blending stump
Stage1 :Using the grid to transfer the image.
We took photograph of each other using tripod and flashes to experiment with the lighting.I use the grid method to copy my picture into my paper then i carefully draw an outline of my facial feature.I also found drawing my eye interesting because you had to start with drawing a circle.
Stage 2 :Shading
First mrs Barnes show us a youtube video of how to draw and shade your facial feature we then practise it on a small piece of paper after that we use EE pencil to draw and shade our eye and other body part then we blend using paper stompe. The part i found difficult is shading my nose because it always comes out looking weird
Stage 3:Checking
I compare my art work with my photograph using value scale i spotted many mistake in the shadow so i had to fix it with EE pencil and blending stompe to make the dark part darker.
Evaluation
My biggest challenge was shading my skin because i found it very diffucult to make it smooth.
My favourite part is drawing the eye
After i finish colouring with chalk pastel and blending with my finger i then spray it with fixative spray so the colour doesn't come off.
