  • • Investigated the causes of epidemics

    • Combatted typhus epidemic in Russia (seemed likely so spread across Europe)

    • Organized educational campaigns, distributed medicines, set up clinics

    • Worldwide campaign to exterminate mosquitos which helped reduce malaria

    • Health was improved 

• Refugee

  • • After the war, 3 million refugees had fled from their homelands

    • LON gave them passports, settle in new countries

    • Returned 400, 000 prisoners to their homes

    • Refugees had a home to live in, take care of families, contribute to the world

• Global disputes

  • • 1925 Bulgaria dispute

      • Greek troops invaded 

      • B and F agreed that both sides should stand down

      • Greeks withdraw from Bulgaria

      • Greece had to pay 45,000 pounds and threatened with sanctions

      • Greece obeyed (Political strength of LON)

Weaknesses

• Disarmament

  • • Disarmament was one of LON's major goals

    • After WW1, there was much distrust

    • Many countries were unwilling to disarm

    • Afraid that disarmament affected: 

      • Ability to defend themselves

      • Vulnerability

    • Italy and Japan built on their military without consequences

    • Ability to wage war was retained

• Individual agendas

  • • 1923 Corfu dispute

      • Britain and France could not cooperate during Italy's invasion of Corfu

      • France supported Italy 

        • Not prepared to tackle Italy

        • Troops were in Ruhr

      • Britain rejected Italy's case

        • However, B was not prepared to tackle issue without France

      • Final decision was that Greeks has to apologize to Italy
