Purpose of education:
Create educated and thoughtful people
Cultivate lifelong learners
Learn habits for work/ cooperation
Education's emphasis on grades:
Are more of a reflection of hard work and memorisation, not intelligence
The point of school is to learn, but over-emphasis on grades will lead to students memorising to the test only, to the point whereby they are not interested in learning things that could still be useful to them, but out of their syllabus. This will lead to loss of curiosity, and possibly even creativity
Students are not encouraged to deviate from the "standard" answer which is expected of every question, as experimenting with answering techniques may ironically cause the deduction of marks. Students cannot express what they have learnt outside the classroom. All exams have a certain scope to test on, discouraging students from doing personal external research to learn more about the topic as a whole.)
The effects of Social Media (and other types of Media) on people:
Youth are targeted to watch small bursts of dopamine, especially through entertainment platforms like Tik Tok, Youtube or Instagram
Teens sort of become drug addicts, reliant and gravitating towards short but intense bursts of dopamine that makes the brain crave for more
Books require to read and process, providing slower, less intense forms of gratification. However, the sense of fulfillment that books provide is notably longer-lasting, and healthier as the brain actually gets a workout reading books and books actually have an educational value, even building student's sense of empathy as they walk in the shoes of the main character
