In recent years, Thailand has committed to moving away from passive or reactive diplomatic postures toward a "Proactive and People-Centered Diplomacy." This involves actively restoring global influence and using diplomacy to directly address the well-being and security of the Thai people, both domestically and internationally. This shift is codified in core strategies that aim to elevate Thailand's "Status" and "Synergy" (part of the 5S strategy), including fostering multilateralism and upholding international legal principles.

A significant component of this approach involves utilizing Thailand's Soft Power, particularly its rich culture, cuisine, and tourism, as a diplomatic tool to build cooperation and enhance the national image abroad. Furthermore, a people-centered focus means proactively strengthening support for overseas Thai communities, workers, and students, and establishing robust emergency plans for nationals caught in international crises. This modern diplomacy emphasizes transparent communication and ensuring the public understands the benefits and relevance of foreign policy to their daily lives.
