- Tape (for start/finish line)
- Pack of White Paper
- Large Box (for dramatic purposes)
- Put construction paper around book (Cover gives away the ending)
- Put 2 lines of tape on the floor (about 10 feet apart)
- Place pack of copy paper in LARGE box (Seal box, keep off to the side)
- Read story
- Talk about 4C’s found in story
- Tell students they are all getting their very own “Going Places Kits”
- Push box to front of room (Pretend it is VERY heavy)
- Your kit has everything you need to complete this challenge
- You may not use any tools EXCEPT what is included in your going places kit
- Your goal is to get your Going Places Kit from the start line to the finish line (Point at start draw a line IN THE AIR to the finish line)
- Take out a “Kit” 1 piece of plain white paper
- Repeat the directions (Remind them to think about the book you just read)
- Let them figure it out
- THIS ACTIVITY HAS A TRICK… PLEASE READ BEFORE TRYING THIS ACTIVITY
- This is a ONE TIME activity. If anyone in the class has done this activity before they will “ruin” it for everyone.
- Students will probably try to make a paper airplane… that’s the idea.
- The TRICK however, is to make a paper ball. Both are acceptable
