Challenge Unlimited, Inc. and its affiliate, Ironstone Therapy, provide therapeutic riding programs for individuals with physical disabilities as well as emotional, cognitive, and behavioral needs for which therapeutic riding would be beneficial. Volunteers groom horses then lead horses or walk alongside providing stability and/or interacting with the client.
I started my journey at this farm as a rider, and then got into volunteering for the therapeutic program. It has been a life changing experience that I know has not only a large impact on me as a person, but the riders I work with as well. Throughout my time here, I have been able to use my riding experience and equine knowledge to help both the riders and horses succeed in each lesson. I spend about 45 min to 1.2 hours a week doing lessons, and they have become something I look forward to. I have met so many new people through this program and have made so many new friends. I look forward to continuing my journey here for as long as possible, and then starting a new one at the University I attend in the future.
