Language: German
Spanish II: In this course, I learned a lot of new Spanish words and learned to conjugate Spanish words in different tenses such as past and present. Throughout this course, I also improved on my Spanish writing skills, which I used to struggle with. We practiced a lot of reading and speaking comprehension, answering questions afterward to make sure we understood what we read or heard. We also did a lot of activities that involved practicing speaking Spanish with our classmates. We'd be given a question or topic and then had to talk about it with the person sitting next to us. This helped us improve our ability to communicate with others on Spanish. This class helped me learn a new langugage that I will be able to use if I were to travel globally.
Spanish III: In this course, I was able to better develop my Spanish communication skills as well as my ability to apply everything I had learned in Spanish so far. Throughout this course, we watched different movies and read different books, all in Spanish, which helped me to learn new grammar and vocabulary. A lot of what we learned is applicable to the real world, which I think is very helpful. Our final in this class was to film a video of yourself baking something of your choosing, and you had to list off the steps and ingredients in Spanish. I chose to make beignets, which was a great Spanish speaking experience, as well as a great baking one. This class allowed me to get a more global perspective on certain event happening throughout the world.
The Modern World: In this course, we did in depth historical research and examined a lot of historical events and themes occurring all over the world in different time periods, including the present. We did a lot of projects that expanded my understanding on the topics we learned. One of the projects we did was on weapons used in World War II, where I was assigned to research about poisonous gasses. In this class, we also developed an understanding of important key history events that have given me a lot of insight. We viewed events from different perspectives and I even took part in socratic seminars and class discussions.
Latin American Studies: In this course, I learned all about Latin American culture, language, and history outside of the Unites States. From learning all the different Latin American countries and their capitals to learning about different political leaders and their history, this class has filled me with so much knowledge. We also learned about current events happening throughout the world in Latin American countries, as well as historical events that happened long before my existence. This was one of my favorite classes that I took Junior year and I believe that everything I learned has helped me gain a better understanding of todays world, and even the past.
AP Language and Composition: I love to read books, and in this course, I was blessed with the opportunity of reading a lot of new and interesting books that had a wide variety of themes. My favorite book was definitely the one I read at the end of the year, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. Throughout this course, I learned a lot about rhetoric, synthesis, and argument writing styles. This was mainly through writing them ourselves and veiwing past AP test essays. We read articles and observed speeches, pointing out whenever we noticed a rhetorical device being used (alliteration, simile, allusion, metaphor, etc.). Annotation was something we did a lot. I was also taught to think and write critically and to always take into account the writers tone and the message they are trying to convey. AP lang has also helped widen my perspective and has given me new global insights about literature and important event going on throughout the world.
Latinos in the USA: I have learned a lot about Latin American culture in the United States throughout this course. I have learned about Latin American identity, Latin American Heritage, Chicana Identity, Latinos in Hollywood, Afrolatino culture, and Diasporas. Throughout the year, I have applied what I have learned through different projects both done in groups and independently. This class has helped me gain new global insights on a culture that exists inside and outside the United States.
AP Environmental Science: In this course, I have been able to learn all about the science behind different processes in the environment and how many of the things humans do negatively impact our planet. This class is partially what inspired my capstone project on sustainable agriculture. In this class, there was a whole unit where we learned about environmental sustainability and environmentally friendly agricultural practices. This class helped be gain a larger perspective on the damage humans are doing to the environment through actions we think are normal. These actions include large amounts of plastic use, agriculture, mining, etc. This class also provides insight on a global level, especially because we learn about how the environmental gets effected by people all over the world.
