Out trip guide, P Noom gave everyone name tags so that the kids at the school would be able to pronounce and understand our names.
We had the opportunity to play with all the kids at the school and it was an amazing experience. They taught us how to play a variety of different games, and we were able to teach them some games as well. I met so many new people and had so much fun. At one point, the kids even gave us ice cream. Saying goodbye to everyone was definitely the hardest part of the trip.
Our main goal while at the school was to make mushroom bags beucase they are a great steady supply of food for all the kids. Mushrooms are also very versatile and can be used to cook a variety of different dishes. To make the bags, we first had to make a large soil mixture that contained all the nutrients and minerals needed for the mushrooms to grow. After making the mixture, we compressed it into bags and put special caps on each of them that would allow the mushrooms to grow. The following day, we spored all the bags. We split into groups of three and took small glass bottles filled with mushroom spores, then divided them equally between between 42 bags. This was a really fun and educational service project.
For another part of our project, we created a small garden for the school. We started by digging through the soil to make it easier to plant seedlings. Then we added sand and minerals and mixed it in well with the soil. After mixing everything together with different gardening tools, we planted seedlings into small holes in the ground and finished it off by watering everything.
