Follow me

In worship this week, we celebrate the remarkable account of Jesus calling his first disciples (Simon, Andrew, James and John) as we look ahead to the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B. He simply says to them, "Follow me" and their faith and instincts take over; leaving everything (including their dad in a boat!) to follow Christ.

We're constantly following things: instructions, SatNavs, social media profiles! We're asking children this week to think about the different things they follow in their lives, hopefully it will include the school staff? We're also thinking about what it takes to be a follower of Christ, and whether we can live up to the example of the first disciples.

Following in dad's footsteps

A great catch for Imogen this week - her poem about fishing...or rather relaxing with friends and family - has been published in the Talking Carp Magazine.

After following in the family tradition, taking up her fishing rod and reel, Imogen discovered that there's a lot more to fishing than just fish.

However, netting a big one is always rewarding too!

Following Christ

We follow Miss Young's lead in Witness Worship this week, as she introduces us to a remarkable man who has committed his life to following Christ. Not only that, but he also gives the Church worldwide the courage and confidence to be better followers too. He writes letters, offers advice and loves watching football. He's a great example of what it takes to follow the Lord with our heart, mind and soul.

- The Big Mercy 4 Mankind Thank You

This is a thank you to those individuals or establishments that have been going 'above and beyond' during the current COVID-19 pandemic to support our local community - Our Local Heroes. Many have suffered during these unprecedented times – whether financially, emotionally, or health-wise, yet there are equally so many who have stepped-up and expressed a selfless desire to help those in need.

There are so many reasons for people to want to give thanks, including…

  • for a neighbour who assisted with shopping during isolation

  • the local foodbank charity that has been supporting the local area

  • a husband/wife for helping during a difficult time

  • a school, or a specific teacher for their efforts during lockdown

We want to give people a platform to say Thank You to these kind-hearted and deserving people. We will be giving out 2 awards – one for an individual and one for a group/organisation. The award winners will be announced at our live online event on 26th February on YouTube presented by the Mayor of Guildford. Award winners will be determined by an independent committee. ALL nominees will receive a special certificate and have their story presented on our website – more details available soon!

Nominations are eligible from anyone for those that are doing worthy of thanks activities within the Borough of Guildford and Farnborough areas.

Those that have been working to support our community during these difficult times deserve our thanks and recognition - let’s all come together on the 26th February 2021 @ 7pm to say a BIG Mercy for Mankind Thank You!

Around the World!

Year 3 had a fascinating afternoon using atlases in their topic lesson yesterday.

The children identified the continents and oceans and circled them on their own inflatable globes.

After that, they looked for the mountains and marked them in the correct place.

What an exciting way for the children to show their learning!

Following Gracie's Shoes

Staff in Year 1 were absolutely amazed by Gracie's maths work this week - as she followed her number line of twos, created with the help of her shoes, to uncover how many pairs made 30!

Absolutely brilliant work Gracie! - I think you might be leading the maths lessons when you return to school.

Follow the star!

Thanks to Nalaya for sharing this beautiful example of spiritual journaling this week - a great reminder that Jesus had followers from his very earliest days: for centuries people had been following the scriptures, listening to the prophets and awaiting his arrival!

Following 3N

A remarkable effort from St Nicholas Class this week - sharing their pre-prepared worship with the community on the theme of followers. We should all take a leaf from their book and learn to follow their example of being well prepared! Well done 3N!

They share with us again the wonderful account of Jesus calling his first disciples, and remind us that we are all called (in our own ways) to become a disciple of Christ. Following his lead isn't always easy but there are many ways we can take a step along that path each day.

Thanks so much for motivating and inspiring us St Nicholas Class!
