Christ our King

In worship this week, we look ahead to the beginning of Holy Week. As we recall Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem we are called to reflect on the theme of kingship. What does it mean to have real power and authority? How should a true king behave? As I'm sure you can guess, I offer an alternative viewpoint to get the children talking this week...

However, on a serious note, it's imperative that children recognise that, no matter how little power they perceive they have, we are all powerful people. We are all gifted with free will which allows us to think, believe and behave with tremendous amounts of power in terms of our relationship with others and our capacity to make the world a better place. And, of course, Jesus shows us how: using our power and authority to act with humility and mercy - service of others is the mark of true kingship.

Lenten Calendar

The second half of the Spring Term is dedicated to the season of Lent: a precious time of prayer, fasting and giving in preparation for the celebration of Easter.

This year, following on from the success of our Advent Old Testament stories in December, the wonderful team at St Joseph's have prepared a Lenten calendar to take us through the next six weeks.

As you engage in the daily reflections and activities, you and your family will discover plenty of ways to pray, fast and give more this Lent. Do let us know how you get on and which activities speak clearest to you.

The Power of Clean

Reception have had a focus on healthy living this week and, amongst other activities, they loved this clean teeth task! It was amazing to see just how difficult it is to clean all the dirt from your teeth and how important those precious two minutes every morning and evening really are!

The sky's the limit with Year 5

Year 5 had great fun this week examining the qualities of parachutes and air resistance in their science topic on forces. There's nothing like launching a Lego person over the balcony (attached to a bin liner) to promote some healthy competition and enquiry! Children loved the hands-on element of the investigation and the freedom to choose and use their own materials.

A Queen's Authority

In Witness Worship this week, Mrs Trimmer take the lead, using her powers of technology to share the voices of many staff across the school who use their power to make our community a better place.

Mrs Trimmer also explores the life, work and reign of one of our country's most beloved monarchs - a lady who teaches us how power and authority can be used in the service of others.

Lots of good fun that is funny!

We're ending this week with the weird and wonderful...I don't mean Miss Shail, I mean the Cat in the Hat!

Equal Rights

In the final installment of our ABCDE of Rights, Miss Rycroft and Miss Longman (and Ralph) teach us that all children's rights are equal - no one right is more important than any other. They are indivisible. This means we have a duty to ensure all children receive all their rights; it's not good enough to have access to 53 out of 54 - all rights are equally valid.

Summer Term Clubs!

We are very excited to announce our growing offer of extra-curricular clubs for the summer term of 2021, both from external providers and school staff.

Although restrictions are still in place, we are able to safely begin rebuilding the wider opportunities for the children of St Joseph's from the start of the summer term.

Parents, do check your ParentMail accounts for information about how to register your child's interest.

A very big thank you to all who are offering school clubs next term: there's a wide variety of sports, drama, music, languages and art, both during the school day and before and after school.
