Christ our Champion!

In worship this week, we are focusing on this weekend's celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. We hear the remarkable account of God's voice, calling from heaven, "My favour rests on you!" We're going to take the theme of champions as our focus: we all need a champion - someone to pick us up, motivate up, celebrate us and help us feel God's love.

We're asking the children this week who their champions are. All children need to know and believe that someone is rooting for them. We also want the children to consider how God might be championing them; it might not be a voice calling from the heavens, but I'm certain that God has his own ways of championing each and every one of us.

Championing Others

Miss Shail takes the lead in Witness Worship this week, introducing us to the formidable civil rights champion Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin made it his life's mission to call out injustice and speak up for the rights of people who were oppressed by others because of the colour of their skin.

We know the cause he championed all those years ago is still being fought for today, with campaigns like Black Lives Matter still asking Governments, communities and organisation to respond to evidence of racism in our society here and now.

Let's learn from Martin Luther King Jr. this week and be a champion for the rights of others.

Family Champions

We've received some lovely examples of the family worships going on at home this week.

Finn described his sister as his champion - someone who tells him he's doing a great job and helps him to feel loved. Francesco chose his "super mum".

Whatever our family units look like, they are truly a blessing and a place where we can feel God's championing love in our lives.

Championing your home languages

Did you know that St Joseph's is in the highest 20% of schools nationally for children with English as an additional language? We are extremely lucky to boast an impressive range of home languages in our demographic and we think it's so important for families to share and celebrate these with each other (and with us!)

Jungle Champions

It's been an ambitious week in Year 2 English, using their new found powers with conjunctions to champion the cause of the rain forests and jungles - much endangered habitats.

During their live lessons, children were thrilled to discover more about plant and animal life found in these parts of the world and put their knowledge to good use when writing their own non-chronological reports.

Year 6 Champions!

Rounding off our record beating week of worship, St Richard's class take the lead on exploring the many different ways we can be champions for each other and champions of God's love.

Quite remarkably, even though they're not in school, 6R have somehow managed to put this beautiful worship together for you to enjoy. That's a champion effort indeed.

Science Champs!

In Year 1 this week, it's been all about materials in science. Children have been off around the house in their efforts to classify materials into different categories: soft, shiny, bendy and smooth.

The top prize goes to anyone who can find an object that is soft, shiny bendy and smooth! - Now there's a challenge!

Champion Marlon!

In this week's bedtime story, Miss Portelli shares "The Last Noo-Noo" - a childhood favourite by Jill Murphy. It's a rollercoaster of a read with some classic characters: the stern grandparent, the over-protective mother and the dummy-sucking monster!
