Don't worry, be happy!

We look back to last weekend's Gospel for a change this week, celebrating the solemnity of All Saints. As we listen again to the beautiful words of the beatitudes, we take the theme of happiness for our worship.

Jesus helps us to recognise that there are many challenges and burdens that life throws our way. However, the mark of a true saint is the one who responds by carrying their cross with happiness, sure in the knowledge that the path of discipleship is always marked by hardship.

We're asking our children this week to think about whether they face the difficulties in their life with happiness. Do we carry our crosses gladly or make a show of dragging them loudly behind us?

November’s ‘Right of the Month’ is:

Article 38 You have a right to protection in times of war. If you are under 15, you should never have to be in an army or take part in a battle.

During this month we celebrate Remembrance Day on the 11th November.

This day commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at 11am on 11 November 1918 – the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

You may like to think about countries where children are affected by war such as Yemen, Syria and Iraq. How do you think war affects children? What could we do to help?

This month we also celebrate Anti-Bullying week. This year with the theme of united against bullying. You may like to celebrate one thing that is the same and one thing that is different between you and a friend.

Happy to be a witness

As we continue our All Saints focus of happiness, Miss Baranowicz shares with us the life and work of one of our most well-known and loved saints - Francis of Assisi.

Famously, Francis was so moved with joy to follow Christ that he even threw off all his clothes and ran naked through the town! What an inspiration to be so overcome with happiness on the path of discipleship.

Miss Baranowicz is encouraging the children this week to consider the simple pleasures in life - taking a moment to be grateful and happy for the many blessing that surround us everyday.

It was wonderful to host a collection of mathematicians today, from Year 3, who came to visit and share with me their remarkable understanding of column addition. It was such a joy to see and hear them speak about their deeper understanding of the well-known algorithm; using diagrams and annotations to help explain how and why exchange works. Keep up the exceptional work Year 3!

Inspiring leadership

Every Wednesday, each class enjoys their Class Collective Worship, which is led and organised by the children. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining some of these Class Worships and was blown away by the inspiring leadership of our young people. Following the structure of 'Gather, Word, Respond, Go Forth', the children think of reflective and spiritual questions, key messages and activities for the class to engage in. There were certainly many examples of HAPPINESS in action!

Happiness in 3H

It turns out, the 'H' in 3H stands for 'happiness'! I can't believe I didn't know this before! What an amazing job St Hilda's Class have done, concluding our week's worship with the most inspiring and heartwarming message. True happiness in life comes from the simple experiences and opportunities that we are grateful for. Well, 3H, you have certainly made me a very happy Headteacher today - well done and God bless you all.

A Happy Giraffe!

Why not end the week with an old favourite? - Apparently, giraffes can't dance...but, with a little help from Miss Baranowicz, they sure can!
