The first and the last

As we look ahead to the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A), we hear Jesus explain to us the parable of the workers in the vineyard. It's a hard lesson for the poor men who started their day's work at sunrise, and an equally challenging lesson for us today. The children (and most of the adults in school!) love coming first, winning, being the best and enjoying the rewards. It is a challenging and humbling experience to be last, to put others first and to see the beauty of such an act. The good news is that we get lots of opportunities to practise such generosity in school, so this week is a good one to consider it.
