A warm invitation

In this week's Gospel (28th Sunday in Ordinary Time), we hear the parable of the wedding feast. After the first guests spurn the King's invitation, he sends out his servants to "invite everyone, bad and good alike." This is a great reminder of our calling as a Catholic school community - all are welcome! We work extremely hard at St Joseph's to offer a genuinely inclusive education where all children's needs are understood and responded to. We're asking the children this week to consider whether they do enough to be inviting people? - Do they leave their classmates feeling welcomed into our school community?

St Francis Celebrates!

1F celebrated the feast day of their class's patron this week. They learnt all about his early life and affluent beginnings before, as legend has it, he rescued the town by taming a wolf that terrorised the people. St Francis class celebrated the legacy of this great saint by doing all things animal themed for the afternoon, including designing their own animal rescue shelters! Happy feast day 1F.

From North Guildford Food Bank...

I just wanted to thank you for the hugely generous harvest donation that you collected from pupils & parents. It was amazing! Please pass on our grateful thanks to all who donated so generously. We were blown away by it this morning & it has really helped to boost our stocks. As you know, we are entirely dependent on donations & without such generosity, we could not provide the help that's needed at the moment. So thank you!

Mental Strength

Saturday 10th October is World Mental Health Day. It's a great opportunity to think a little more about what we're doing to grow mentally strong children and whether we're doing enough to take care of our own mental health too.

Here's a quick video from Charlotte, a local "Kids Coach" who helps families to build up positive routines, activities and ways of thinking that promote good mental health. She's got five top tips for supporting your child this World Mental Health Day.

In this week's witness worship, Miss Birtles introduces us to a remarkable witness who was inspired by his own welcome into British society, that he continued to welcome others throughout his life. Sir Ludwig Guttman invited people with disabilities to take part in competitive sport and so the building of the Paralympic Games began! Who will you extend your invite to this week? How can we use the example of our witness to hear God's invitation to us?

Parentalk

Being a parent is one of life’s greatest joys, but it is also one of its biggest challenges. There’s hardly a mum or dad on the face of the earth who, at times, is not overawed by the task of parenting. For many of us, the current pandemic is also reducing our chance to share the highs and lows with others - which definitely helps us along the journey!

That’s why the Catholic Parish of Guildford are offering the 6-week course “Parentalk” via Zoom on Mondays 8.15-10pm starting on 2nd November. This course will be a great way to reflect on your parenting and your children and also to meet with other parents with children of a similar age. Many thanks to St Vincent's Class for such an enjoyable summary of this week's worship theme - invitations. In today's worship they explore the many simple but powerful ways we can be inviting in everyday life.

PFSA Mad Hair Day!

Lots of fun and laughter, to raise money for the PFSA and bring a smile to our faces. What fun we had today! Many thanks to the generous parents who made a donation.

Year 3's Butser Adventure

Despite the wet weather, on Thursday this week Year 3 enjoyed a super day at Butser Ancient Farm to enhance their understanding of Stone Age Life. They took part in a variety of activities: making pottery, chalk carving, observing stone age artefacts and making a bracelet out of straw made from plant fibre. The children listened politely to the Butser leaders and asked their own sensible questions about Stone Age life. The following day we were amazed at how many facts they had remembered. Well done Year 3!
