Nasty Surprises!

Looking back again this week (to the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time) I am in for a nasty surprise in this week's worship. As Jesus shares with us the parable of the 10 bridesmaids, we are left wondering which group we might find ourselves in? Are we the proactive, prepared and sensible sort or do we find ourselves caught out by nasty surprises?

We're asking the children this week if they cope well with surprises? - Do they know how to respond when plans change and circumstances are not what they expected? We're also asking children to reflect on the many wonderful surprises God might have in store for their lives...

Silver Success

Congratulations to Colleen in Year 5 who has earned herself a coveted Silver House Point for her remarkable maths work out on the playground. Her enthusiasm for maths has encouraged others to think and calculate, having explored and discussed her chalkings.

What I particularly like about this is that it isn't all correct - there are a few small errors - and that's a great reminder that maths is all about problem solving. We can't expect to achieve success first time - resilience is a key skill in mathematics. Brilliant work Colleen!

Fireworks for Bertie!

Such happy news from Mrs Osborne:

We welcomed Albert Peter Whiteman Osborne into the world bang on his Bonfire Night due date. How neat! We’re going to call him Bertie. He was born 7lbs7 and is bringing us so much joy - we’re in love!

Our love and prayers are with them all.

Surprised by Joy

Using the witness of a famous author, Mrs Dollner explores the true surprise of when God spoke to C.S. Lewis and restored his faith. This inspired his writing of the book 'Surprised by Joy' and the creation of his Narnia films. Isn't it wonderful how God can surprise us when we are least expecting it!?

Mrs Dollner is encouraging the children to reflect on the surprises in their own lives and consider what they could do to pleasantly surprise someone this week.

Marking Remembrance

We observed a 2 minutes' silence on Wednesday 11th November, to pay respect to all those who have lost their lives in the service of our country. Prayer tables across the school were adorned with remembrance symbols. Sharing in worships in Year 1 and the Nursery today, it was remarkable how maturely and sensitively children were able to express their understanding of sadness and loss. They were awe-inspired by a beautiful rendition of The Last Post we used to mark the end of our worship.

Surprise! - From 4L

A lovely surprise from 4L this week, a worship all about the many ways our lives can take twists and turns that we don't expect. However, working in all these unexpected ways, we can witness God's power and glory (if we stop long enough to see it). We hear the stories of some well known Biblical characters, whose lives held surprises they could never have imagined. However, their faith and commitment helped to reveal the work of God in their lives. What a wonderful message St Luke's Class - thank you for such a nice surprise!
