Screen time is too general a term. It's more useful to look at how long and how often we are using the screen and whether we are using it actively or passively.
Research about screen time and health isn't conclusive but may suggest:
Screen time right before bed and heavy screen time throughout the day can lead to problems with sleep.
Screen time can have addictive qualities through "feedback loops."
Links between screen time and depression may exist but are likely very small.
Passive screen time is more strongly linked to negative well-being, but active screen time is linked to positive effects, like connecting with others and finding your "tribe."
Active use as contributing online via posts, comments, or any other form of online communication and expression.
Passive use as scrolling through online content without reacting to it.
