To refine concepts A and B further, a sizing standard need to be selected. The sizing ratios of A-Series paper was taken as inspiration for a sizing guideline. The A-series of paper works using a 1/2 ratio such that two A5 fill an A4. This guiding principle was used in order to allow the modules to fit together in various combinations more easily. All the sizes were based on the Large module which has the dimensions of letter size paper plus the thickness of the walls (t = wall thickness).
There are a few guiding design principles behind the modules:
Each module must be capable of being used by itself
Each module should ideally have different uses in order to be versatile
As such, focus was given on maximizing the modules' rearrangement possibilities
Due to the technical of the magnetic connections, it was determined that the designs of the modules themselves needed to contain some kind of connection system.
This is a tray modules with the inner space for letter size paper. The dimensions are 280+2*t x 216*2*t mm.
This module is a multi-sectioned holder for various materials. The dimensions are 216+2*t X 140+t mm
This modules has sections of increasing heights to allow for the storage of various items of various sizes. The smallest height is good for small items like nail polish while the tallest one is good for pencils and pens. The dimensions are 140+t X 108+t mm
This module is a drawer that also serves as a holder due to its open top. The dimensions are the same as the slant.
This is the smallest module which can be used upright as a normal pencil holder. If used sideways on top of another large module, it extends the height of the module and serves as dividers for pencils. The dimensions are 108+t X 70+t/2 mm.
How to use the modules?
The modules can be combined to fit any use case and work environment. They also can store a wide variety of school and work supplies, as well as personal belongings.
The same module can be used in a different orientation to fit different uses while still maintaining the sizing standard.
Two slants can be stacked for increased height for long items like pencils and pens.
Extra small and small modules are designed to fit on top of the medium modules to increase storage for larger items.
All of the smaller modules can be stacked on top of the large modules. Note that extra small is used in two different ways here.
This drawer module can be used in two distinct ways. There can be another module stacked on top and the drawer used normally. An alternate use is to not have anything on top and use it as a tray; possible due to the open top. It also can be stacked on top of the medium and large modules.
