mEMORIES FROM THE HILLTOP

Rodriguez, Geronimo

Interview Summary: Geronimo Rodriguez was a CAMP student at St. Edward’s from 1986-1990. He and his family traveled from Alamo, Texas through the Pacific Northwest for migrant work, often having to stay in condemned housing or camps. Geronimo worked his way through night school to finish his high school education, which provided him with a full ride to St. Edward’s on top of his CAMP scholarship. While here, he majored in Political Science, but also greatly enjoyed his economics courses. Geronimo served as the president of the Young Democrats Club as well as multiple positions within the Student Government Association. Though there have been a lot of changes on campus and in the surrounding community, Geronimo says he still sees the same values of justice and equity thriving on the Hilltop through current students, faculty, and the administration. Now, as the Austin ISD School Board President, Geronimo credits his success to St. Edward’s and the sacrifices his parents made, claiming none of the work he has done for Austin would be possible without them.
