Altenburger, Marcus

Interview Summary: Marcus Altenburger was a history major at St. Edward’s until 1968. He lived in Doyal Hall and was a part of the Texas and Hiking Clubs. He remembers spending a lot of time at movie screenings in the old cafeteria (now the Fine Arts building). In his time at St. Edward’s, Marcus most enjoys looking back on the “Ghostwriter Awards,” a competition created by his class with such prestigious awards as the “Rip Van Winkle Award” for sleeping in class, the “Colossal Failure Award” for worst event, and “Most Unique Beard” which Marcus won. He notes that Austin has grown a lot since he last lived here, and that he and his friends used to be able to walk to 6th Street and back with ease. After his years at St. Edward’s Marcus served in the Air Force before being able to retire at the age of 57.
