Planting


  • Everyone knows each other’s names and uses them.

  • Everyone is welcomed when they arrive.

  • Participants show interest in getting to know each other.

  • Programming includes small group activities that support youth in getting to know one another and connect around their common interests, explore their uniqueness, and work together on a shared goal.

Growing


  • Icebreakers and team-building activities are utilized regularly to create a sense of trust among the group and to foster productive professional relationships as well as open, personal connections.

  • Restorative practices (e.g. participatory, trust-building, proactive community building) are used to address conflicts and mistakes.

  • Participants provide one another, including youth to staff, with constructive feedback that encourages growth. Youth are connected via social media.

Blossoming


  • The organization has rituals, routines, and/or special events/outings to celebrate and acknowledge accomplishments of individuals as well as the group and to create a sense of belonging/ownership.

  • Organization prides itself on its youth legacy.

  • Youth get together on their own outside of the program.

  • Youth’s language demonstrates ownership of and belonging to the organization/ program (e.g. “our program”).
