Feast Day: November 11
Patron Saint of: bakers, beggars, brides, and death of children
Elizabeth was born on July 7, 1207 to her parents, Hungarian King Andrew the Second and Gertrude of Marina. Elizabeth dedicated her life to serving and caring for the poor. Being a princess she used her royal position to give away the royals' food, clothing, and goods to the less fortunate. One day she placed several loaves of bread into her cloak. When her husband stopped her and asked her to reveal what was under her cloak, instead of bread falling to the floor, roses did. I chose St. Elizabeth as my Confirmation saint because her miracle started as a simple act of care and turned into a beautiful miracle. I hope all my simple acts of kindness turn into something of such beauty. Elizabeth died on November 11, 1231 after years of working in a hospital. Days after her death, many were cured of illness at her grave site. Examinations for those cured were held and she was then canonized in 1235.
