Feast Day: January 4
Patron Saint of: Catholic Schools
Elizabeth Ann Bayley was born on August 28, 1774 to Doctor Richard and Catherine Bayley in New York. She married William Magee Seton at the age of 19. He contracted Tuberculosis, so Elizabeth brought him to Italy in hopes he would feel better with the fresh air, but he passed away. During her time in Italy, she discovered the Catholic church. Later in her life, she helped to establish the first free Catholic school in America and started the Sisters of Charity. She helped many people in her life. Saint Elizabeth was the first American-born citizen to become a saint. I chose her as my saint because I loved her story, especially when she lost so many important people in her life, but still had faith in God.
