Saint Bernadette was born in Lourdes, France on January 7, 1844 into a poor family. At the age of 14 she began to have visions of the Immaculate Conception. Bernadette was visited a total of 18 times. Bernadette joined the sisters of Charity of Nevers. She died on April 16, 1879 at the age of 35 at the Holy Cross infirmary of St. Gildard. She was canonized by Pope Pius XI in December of 1933.
