Ms. Stanley

Hi, everybody!

I have missed everyone so very much! I cannot wait to be back in school so I can work with all of the fantastic classes that I get to see every single day. I have been thinking about every single one of you, and I hope you are all staying safe and healthy!

The teachers at L-M have been working so much to prepare work for you. This will help you keep up on skills that we have learned this year! Reviewing skills is great for our brains. I have had the chance to look through the work, and I feel confident that it is great practice for all of you!

That being said, I would love to provide any additional materials for those of you who work with me. I will include a few options below.

I will be checking my e-mail, estanley@lmcsd.org, multiple times throughout the day. Do not hesitate to reach out to me if you or your students have questions, or if they simply would like to talk. As I said above, I have missed everyone! ❤️ I am hoping to soon set up office hours online to meet with students.

I want to emphasize that all of the work provided for enrichment, whether by the grade level teachers or by myself, is voluntary. I would love to provide feedback on anything that my students do! Also, please do not feel obligated to do all of the work at once. The work is meant to be spread out over the three weeks that we are anticipated to be gone.

Additional Resources from Miss Stanley

CoronaVirus Social Story

  • This free resource from Easter Seals can be helpful if your child is having a difficult time understanding why we are currently not in school.

COVID-19 Time Capsule

  • This is a free resource from LONG Creations. The creator, Natalie Long, wanted to have something for families with children to use to remember this time. Scroll to the box that says "Download Links" and select "US Version: Time Capsule EN-US" to download this wonderful activity. I highly recommend taking a look!

Reading Practice

  • Dolch Sight Words Flash Cards

      • This is a document that I created with flash cards of all 220 Dolch words, as well as a few additional words. There is a blank page at the end if you would like to make your own cards with (for sibling names, last names, or other things that your child may frequently see). Please feel free to practice the words with your child!

  • Subtitles

  • Storyline Online

      • Storyline Online is a great resource where famous actors read children's books, with videos and illustrations included!

  • Favorite Recipe

      • Have your student help read a favorite recipe while making it (with support from a parent or older family member).

Math Practice

  • Have your child practice memorizing important phone numbers (Mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa). Let them read them, say them, and write them. Please contact me if you would like personalized practice sheets for your student.

  • Make math facts out of your life! Write them down to remember. For example:

      • Miss Stanley's age is: 13+13= ◾️

      • Miss Stanley's height in inches is 70-9= ◾️

      • Miss Stanley has this many pets: 5-3= ◾️

      • Miss Stanley's birth month number is 10-8=◾️

      • You could do hair length, shoe size, number of siblings, birth date, or any other number you can think of!

  • Using a deck of cards, draw four cards. Create an addition, subtraction, or multiplication (3rd grade) problem to solve. Be sure to show your work using a pencil and paper!

  • Are there rocks at your house? Use the rocks to make a multiplication array. Try dividing the rocks as well! M&Ms, Skittles, chocolate chips, and peanuts are also a great item to use.

  • Does your child have a favorite recipe? Cook it together! Have your student read the recipe and measure the ingredients to practice fractions.

Writing Practice

  • Does your child have your home address memorized? Now is a great time to practice writing and saying it! Please contact me if you would like personalized practice sheets for your student.

  • Have your child(ren) help you plan out the meals for the next week. After you've decided on meals, figure out what groceries you need. Have them make the list. Here is a document that you are welcome to print off and use for meal planning.

  • Have your child make a family tree of your family (with your help!). This will give them a chance to think of who is in their family, and also think about spatial awareness when drawing things out. It can be as small or large as you would like.

  • Let your child pick a picture from a magazine. Tell them to create a story to go with the picture. Be sure to ask them to read over it!

  • www.typing.com (for 3rd Grade)

    • Click on "Student Login" in the top right corner

    • Click on "Log in with Google"

    • Have your child put in their school e-mail address and password. If they cannot remember it, please contact me or their grade level teacher.

Spelling Words Practice

  • Find a paintbrush and a cup of water. Paint your spelling words with water on the sidewalk.

  • Parents: Did you ever play "HORSE" while you played basketball? Try that with your child's spelling words!

  • Have your children create sentences with their spelling words and let them text them to you.

  • Ask your child to find sticks in the yard to create the letters in their spelling words. How many words can they build?

What has Miss Stanley been doing during this time?

I have spent a lot of time with my dogs, Meyer and Mason. They are loving all of the attention!
Over the past year I have been teaching myself to sew. During this break I made my first dress!
My friends and I have been video chatting quite a bit. We miss each other, but are still social distancing.
Mrs. Bohlen gave me a recipe for muffins earlier this year! They are one of my favorite recipes to make now.
