This course is suitable for students of all ability levels. The majority of the work will be computer based, students will be supported in research methods and understanding of data.
Health and Social Care covers a variety of areas across health and social care. Learners can take units that focus on healthy living, diet, therapeutical activities as well as the skills, attributes and values required to give care. In addition to the sector-specific content available in these qualifications, the requirements mean that learners develop the transferable skills needed to progress to further education or employment.
Course Content
Health and social care engages students in the in depth study of the healthcare sector. They will complete three mandatory units:
· Human Lifespan Development
· Ensuring Healthy Living
· Skills, Attributes and Values Required to Give Care
Unit 1 Human Lifespan Development:
· Written assignment – A case study released by the exam board which changes each year
· 25% of overall grade
Unit 2 Ensuring Healthy Living:
· Written assignment – A case study released by the exam board which changes each year
· 25% of overall grade
Unit 3 Skills, Attributes and Values Required to Give Care
· 1 hour written exam
· 60 marks
· 50% of overall GCSE
Health and Social Care provides an excellent grounding for anyone interested in working in the healthcare sector. Student will be able to continue their studies at Level 3 Health and Social care, which will provide the entry requirement for a number of university qualifications. Potential careers include Nursing, Social work, Mental Health Support Worker, Paramedic and many more.
