Executive Director's Report: Lesley Massey
As we reflect on this past month, I am reminded of the strength that comes when we choose to come together in times of challenge rather than allow difficulties to pull us apart. Our community of Early Childhood Educators and families has shown time and again that when we unite with care and compassion, we not only overcome obstacles but grow stronger in the process.
This spirit of unity was beautifully demonstrated at our very first Splash Conference. We were proud to welcome 51 educators from all of our centres to a day of shared learning, collaboration, and inspiration. It was an incredible experience to see so many colleagues come together with open hearts and open minds. The conference was more than professional development—it was a celebration of our collective dedication to children, families, and to each other. Strengthening our bonds in this way supports not only our practice, but also staff retention, ensuring that the educators who care so deeply for your children feel supported and valued.
As we move into a new fiscal year, we have much to look forward to: welcoming new Board members, opening our new 96-space centre, and supporting the transition to a new Executive Director. Each of these milestones offers opportunities for growth and renewal. Let us embrace them with kindness, respect, caring, and positivity—values that will guide us in continuing to build a strong, compassionate, and resilient community.
Together, we are more than the sum of our parts. Together, we can ensure that our centres remain places where children thrive, families feel supported, and educators feel valued. Thank you for being an essential part of this journey.
With gratitude

Meet the New Board!
Introduction for Solidarity Statement
For more than four decades, Splash Child Care Inc. has been a proud part of the Winnipeg community. Over the years, we have expanded to four locations, serving a vibrant and diverse community of children and families. In the mid-1990s, our Executive Director, Lesley, had the privilege of hearing the Honourable Murray Sinclair speak at a conference and then again at the University of Winnipeg in 2019 on Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples and the essential work of Truth and Reconciliation. The conversation that followed became a pivotal moment; one that set our organization on a path of reflection and growth. What began as a simple land acknowledgment has evolved into a deliberate and meaningful statement of solidarity, one that continues to guide the values and commitments of the Splash community today.
The spirit of this journey resonates with the teachings of the Eighth Fire prophecy—a continuation of the Anishinaabe Seven Fires Prophecy. It speaks of a time of conflict and struggle between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, followed by the opportunity to build a renewed relationship founded on respect and understanding. In the Eighth Fire, a new generation, the ‘New People,’ emerge—bringing together Indigenous knowledge and Western knowledge to light a sacred fire of peace, love, and brotherhood. If we choose the right path, this prophecy reminds us, we have the chance to step into a golden age together.

Acknowledgement 2025
“Splash Child Care Inc. acknowledges that the land on which we gather is stolen land, the original inhabitants driven off, forced to relocate. This is the reality of colonization. Covenants were formed, in the languages of the colonizers, called treaties, but these were amended and broken by the colonizers as desired. This land knows sorrow. But this land also knows joy and hope. Hope that the future will not be like the past. And so with humility and respect we commit ourselves to the continuing promise of reconciliation, the reclamation of dignity, the restoration of just relationships. We are all Treaty People.”
Here is Jashan!
Hello everyone,
My name is Jashan. I was born and raised in Punjab and have been in Canada for almost 6 years now. I am working at Splash Early Learning centre and have been in the child care field since 2021. My hobbies are - painting, travelling, reading and sometimes I love to write poetry. I love going out for nature walks and meet people.
My favourite thing about working with children is that I get the opportunity to learn/ experience so many things with them such as going for community walks, greeting people, building strong connections, doing messy play and most importantly, making a difference in their lives by providing them safe environment. When I was a kid, I never had the chance to do open- ended learning activities and that is the reason too, why I love working here and learning with children as we get lots of opportunities to explore. It is not only them learning but also my knowledge is expanding in this field. I am so happy to be a part of the Splash community and learning something new everyday.
