For the month of May, we will focus on fostering creativity, exploration, and hands-on learning experiences for our Beavers.
We will be encouraging children to creatively explore through various art activities. Beaver Dam will provide opportunities for children to experiment with different painting techniques, materials, and textures. These experiences allow children to express their individuality while building confidence and nurturing their creativity.
In addition, we will be expanding on sensory exploration, particularly through outdoor play. Children will have the opportunity to explore muddy puddles and natural elements, engaging their five senses—touching, smelling, seeing, and hearing (while reinforcing safe boundaries such as not tasting). These experiences help children develop a deeper understanding of their environment while encouraging curiosity and exploration.
We will also be incorporating opportunities to observe and explore insects and small critters in our outdoor environment. Activities such as digging in the soil to discover worms and other living things will support the development of fine motor skills, strengthen hand muscles, and encourage problem-solving and inquiry-based learning.
Furthermore, we will continue to build on colour recognition skills. While April focused on identifying primary colours, in May we will explore secondary colours, specifically green, purple, and orange, both indoors and outdoors. Recognizing and identifying colours supports cognitive development, confidence, and environmental awareness.
As we anticipate spending a significant amount of time outdoors, we kindly ask that children come dressed appropriately for the weather. Please also ensure that your child has extra clothing available, as many of our activities may involve paint, water, and sensory play.
We look forward to a month filled with creativity, exploration, and meaningful learning experiences. Thank you for your continued support!
Thank you to all the Beavers families for your support, cooperation, and for being an important part of our community.
