A little science experiment. Ice cream!
Hi families, hope your month has been as lovely as ours has been! To recap, we celebrated many birthdays and continued to spread kindness (the core of curriculum) through Friendship Day festivities and scaffolding off the children’s gracious minds! Thank you to all of our guest readers - with special thanks to the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning, Tracy Schmidt for sharing her time with us.
One experience in particular stands out to us as we reflect on the past weeks. What started out as one child’s mission soon evolved into a collaborative project amongst children of varying stages of development. Children’s verbal and non verbal language supported their ability to collaborate - some children took the lead and were inclusive of others by extending acceptance and delegating them to join in and help. Children demonstrated incredible patience and problem solving skills with one another as they each shared their visions with one another and made compromises. Each child had their own role in the experience. The final result was a deep den-like area (a house for the birds and squirrels) carved out of snow. Inside, “small ice blocks for furniture”, “a big chunk of ice for the door”, and “a big park with a slide built next to the animals house”. One child exclaimed “they need food!” We later added in some birdseed. Their dedicated spirits and thoughtful work was a sure treat to witness!
Reciprocity
Stay tuned for our March celebrations - we have many birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate, International Women’s Day/Women’s History Month is right around the corner, Holi (Festival of Colours), Mario Day, PI Day (Math Day), and the month of March is also National Nutrition Month to name a few! In addition to this, we look forward to increasing our time outdoors this month - including picnics when weather is mild! Increasing time spent in one space allows for fewer transitions for the children and enables children to get immersed deeply in their play ideas - this also contributes to building the attention span! Land provides the optimal environment for children’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development and well being. As the weather shifts back and forth from warmer and cooler temperatures, and our time outside increases, we request that children have either multiple pairs of mitts, or waterproof mittens. To guarantee children’s comfort, please ensure that footwear is warm and waterproof as well.
We look forward to sharing this month with you,
