Welcome February! January was an eventual month of sensory exploration, experimentation, and playing in the snow for the Turtles. As we say hello to the ”Month of Love”, we are excited for the monthly events such as “I Love To Read”, and hope to take advantage of the winter snow while outside and continue to find new ways to enjoy the weather!

Last month, the Turtles experimented with colour mixing with ice and water play! We added two colours of food colouring into our water play and mixed the colours together to make a new colour. The Turtles learned that mixing certain colours together makes green, purple, or sometimes brown, and the infants enjoyed being curious on what colour will appear.

Since we love recycling and reusing materials, the infant environment shared old paper shreds and we turned it into a sensory activity. The children loved laying down and tossing the paper in the air!

The infants took advantage of the snowy hills last month, and we had a blast using the sleds at the park! We joined Beaver Dam and Bear Den at Fort Rouge to play with the sleds. It was a fun opportunity to stir curiosity on how fast the sled went, where it went, and a good way to get the heart rate going! The children also loved trying to pull each other on the sled, using their arms to pull the strings encouraging gross motor skills.

Turtles loved sand play, scooping and dumping was one of their favourite activities. After they were done with sand, we added papers and glue. They glued and poured sand, different shapes came out and we talked about what those shapes looked like. Some looked like birds and animals.

Turtle’s were also invited to the DJ Dance Party hosted by our fellow educator Hazel. Aside from Turtle’s, preschool were invited to dance and meet the infants. As an awesome way to end that week, we would like to thank Hazel for being our DJ! We had so much fun and we hope to have another one soon!

January was certainly the month of sensory and experimentation for our Turtles. We took this opportunity to mix corn starch and water to create Oobleck! We learned that the mixture is liquidy and that it is challenging to mix when using our hands or a spoon, and when held, it is solid. This activity promoted fine and gross motor skills when mixing and grabbing the mixture, sensory exploration, and learning new words such as “solid.”

We are looking forward to February and the events coming up! We are excited to have our special guests and parents come in for “I Love To Read” and celebrating the birthdays this month (including two of our Turtles.) We look forward to decorating our room for these upcoming dates. Cheers to February!

Turtle Pond would also like to give our thank you’s to our Georgia and her family for lending us a circus tent. The infants love it!

As the weather outside fluctuates, we ask that children have proper outerwear like ski-pants or a one piece jacket, cozy hat, and gloves.

Please check your child’s daily reports (placed at the top shelf of the locker) at pickup.
Please take water bottles home every Friday to be deep cleaned and bring back on Monday.
