Smudged Math
Smudged Math was inspired by Dr. Peter Liljedahl and is when we take an equation and smudge or blur out some of the information, then ask students to determine what might be under the smudge/blur. An example from Norma B. Gordon is below:
These questions often have many different answers, which allows students to attempt different strategies and share divergent thinking with classmates.
