The Common Application, frequently referred to as the Common App, is used by over 1,000 colleges and universities and growing and is an easy way to apply to multiple colleges and/ or universities without having to re-enter duplicate information.
Some schools utilize their own application system, so check on the Common Application website for those that do use the Common App. To see a current list of schools that accept the Common App, please click here.

College Visits
Southmoreland High School welcomes college and university admissions representatives to meet with our students. Announcements will be made in school and via the Google Classroom when a representative is scheduled for a visit. Visitors are typically either in the Student Union or right outside the cafeteria.
You are under no obligation when speaking to a representative, including Military representatives.

Yes, test optional means you are not required to have taken a college entrance exams such as the ACT or SAT to gain admittance into a college. There are still some schools that do require such tests especially for more competitive programs.
The counselors at SHS strongly recommend you look to each college or university you are interested in to see what their admission requirements are. They will clearly state if they are a Test Optional school or if they require a test score for review. NOTE: Some colleges/ universities overall may not require a test score but there are some majors/ programs that do. The colleges/ universities will generally list that amongst the admissions criteria.
