Monday 13 October
Dear Families,
October is a special time in our Catholic faith, dedicated to the Rosary—a powerful prayer that helps us reflect on the life of Jesus and the guidance of His mother, Mary. Through the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous mysteries, we meditate on key moments of faith, love, and sacrifice.
Praying the Rosary strengthens our connection to God, with Mary interceding for us. This month, let us come together as a school community to reflect, pray for peace, and grow in faith through the example of Mary.
Final Call- 2026 School Fete Committee Needed!
The success of our past fetes has been thanks to the wonderful dedication and teamwork of our Parent Fete Committee. To bring this much-loved community event to life again, we need a new group of enthusiastic parents to take the lead and support the organisation. Without a committee, we sadly can’t hold a fete- so if you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now’s the perfect time!
Fete Committee Roles include:
Coordinating stalls, food trucks, rides and activities.
Liaising with Merri-bek Council, traffic control and local police regarding permits and requirements.
Managing marketing and event logistics.
Meeting with our school principal regarding communication and organisation.
If you’re organised, creative, or simply keen to get involved, we’d love your help!
Please complete the HERE to express your interest.
Together, we can make the 2026 Fete an event to remember!
Term 4 Curriculum Overviews
Our Term 4 curriculum overviews are now ready and available for parents to explore. These overviews offer valuable insights into the learning intentions and key focus areas for each subject, helping you stay informed about your child's educational journey this term. To view the curriculum overviews, simply click on the "Learning and Teaching" tab above. We encourage all families to take the time to review these overviews and stay connected with the exciting learning opportunities ahead!
Swimming Program
We are thrilled to share how successful our recent water safety program with Elite Swim School turned out. The students eagerly embraced the opportunity to build their confidence in the water while learning essential safety skills. From swimming techniques to understanding water safety, the program was a fantastic experience for all involved. A big thank you to Gabe Williams, our Sport and Outdoor Education Lead, for his coordination and support in ensuring everything ran smoothly. A special shout out to our parent helpers for the time you provided to support this program- your time means a lot to us. From all reports, the program was a great success, and we look forward to more opportunities like this in the future!
Child Safety- Commitment to the child safe standards.
At the end of last term we acknowledged national child protection week it was timely leading up and post this day to address how here at St.OPPS we address the child safe standards in practice. Each fortnight last term, I addressed two of the standards and provide examples of how we as a school promote a culture of child safety. to ensuring our community is committed to the wellbeing and safety of all children. Here are the final three standards in action.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Child safety in physical and online environments
State in school policies that, when one-to-one interactions occur between an adult and a child, they should be conducted in either an open space or line of sight.
Keep up to date with current online safety issues and expert information from specialist government and non-government bodies, including the Office of the eSafety Commissioner and eSmart Schools.
Promote activities in the school community that connect schools and communities, and raise awareness to prevent bullying and violence (e.g. National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence).
Child Safe Standard 10 – Review of child safety practices
Keep records of documentation, such as school advisory meeting papers and minutes, outlining recommendations on how child safe practices can be improved and implemented.
Inform the school community of any child safety policy changes where relevant or applicable.
Use surveys, to review the accessibility and level of awareness of child safety policies and procedures by students, families, staff and volunteers.
Child Safe Standard 11- Implementation of child safety practices
Allocate regular time for a child safety agenda item for staff meetings.
Include a regular child safety item in newsletters to families.
2026 Preparation and Planning
It is hard to believe we are already preparing for 2026. If your child will not be returning to St Oliver’s next year (apart from Year 6 students), please let me know by email or phone so we can plan accordingly by Friday 17 October.
Uniform Update
Thank you to the families who have shared their experiences with our new uniform supplier. Feedback from many parents has been positive, with the transition to Lowes described as affordable, convenient, and well-suited to the busyness of family life.
We are satisfied to date that it has been a smooth change following the closure of A Plus Uniforms. Like any business, Lowes operates differently from previous suppliers, and while some families have adjusted quickly, others are still becoming familiar with their processes.
While we recognise that experiences may vary, this was also the case with our previous suppliers, where both positive and constructive feedback were received. No supplier, organisation or person is ever perfect, and it’s important that we move forward positively and collaboratively with Lowes so they continue to support us as a valued school community.
I am out on duty most mornings and afternoons and always welcome a chat about your family’s experience in regards to any aspect of our school.
