Monday 28 July
Dear families,
Welcome back to Term Three! We're excited about the many learning opportunities ahead. This term will be full of explicit teaching tactics aimed at full participation from students and meeting each student's individual goals. Let's embrace it with enthusiasm and make the most of every moment. Here's to a great Term Three and no better way to kick things off that with a celebration. This Thursday, 31 July, we look forward to celebrating Grandparents Day, a special occasion that honours the love, wisdom and guidance of the grandparents in our community. The date coincides beautifully with the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. We warmly invite all grandparents and special older friends to join us for Mass, followed by a classroom activity with their grandchild, and then morning tea, including freshly baked scones and tea or coffee, in our school hall.
Celebrate Grandparents Day 2025 This July!
Get ready to celebrate Grandparents Day this coming Thursday!
To coincide with the Feast Day of Saints Anne and Joachim (Jesus' grandparents- on July 26), our Grandparents Day celebration will be held THIS Thursday, 31 July.
We can't wait to honour all the wonderful grandparents in our community and hope you can join us for a special day.

Child Safety- Commitment to the child safe standards.
With national child protection week approaching in September in may be a good time in Term 3 to address how here at St.OPPS we address the child safe standards in practice. Each fortnight I will address two of the standards and provide examples of how we as a school promote a culture of child safety to ensuring our community is committed to the wellbeing and safety of all children.
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week is an opportune time to focus on child safe standard 1. Through our Acknowledgement of Country at the commencement of all assemblies, the flying of the aboriginal flag and the integration of indigenous perspectives in units of inquiry are some ways we value and commemorate our shared history.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leaderships, governance and culture.
St Oliver Plunkett Catholic Primary School is a school which operates with the consent of the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne and is operated and governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS). We have a public commitment to child safety. This is visible in our policy documentation and school website. Staff and volunteers are required to follow a code of conduct related to behavioural standards and responsibilities. Our school policies are readily available on our website. These outline and promote a culture of child safety. All children also have access to a student friendly version of the Child Safety Policy and a Code of Conduct. The children will have the opportunity to revisit this document during WOW week at the beginning of the year and a refresher during National Child Protection Week.
School Closure- Monday 11 August
Please note that the school will be closed to students on Monday 11 August as our staff will be engaged in professional learning focused on the goals of our Annual Action Plan.
If you require care for your child on this day, please ensure they are booked into Extend.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Book Week Dress Up- Book an Adventure
As you know, our school loves a dress-up, and we're excited to announce that Book Week is approaching this term! It's never too early to start thinking about suitable costumes for your children. This year, Book Week will take place from Monday 18 August - Friday 22 August. Whether it's a beloved character from a favourite story or an imaginative creation, we can't wait to see the wonderful costumes that our students will wear to celebrate the joy of reading. Our dress up day and parade will take place on Monday 18 August at 9:15am- parents are most welcome to join us on the north yard- weather permitting.

Members of the Pascoe Vale St. Vinnies conference are trying to prevent the closure of their community. New members required for volunteer work 1 hour per week with future leadership roles.
