Monday 8 September
Dear Families,
Happy Monday and welcome to Week 8! We hope all our Dads and father figures had a wonderful Father’s Day yesterday, filled with love and special moments. May God bless all our fathers with strength, wisdom and love, guiding them in their important role and showering them with His grace.
Below are some highlights from our school's event in commemorating and celebrating all our Father Figures.
Thank You to Our Wonderful Volunteers
A heartfelt thank you to all the mums who generously gave their time and energy to support our Father’s Day Stall and Raffle. Your kindness, creativity, and willingness to help made this event such a success. We are truly grateful for your generosity and the joy you bring to our school community.
A special thank you to Michael Del Mastro for the donation of the 2025 Carlton Jersey, which raised an incredible $551 for our school. What an amazing effort! Congratulations also to Gabriel Mercuri, the successful winner of the auction.
Child Safety- Commitment to the child safe standards.
With this week being national child protection week it has been timely to address how here at St.OPPS we address the child safe standards in practice. Each fortnight this term, I have addressed two of the standards and provide examples of how we as a school promote a culture of child safety. to ensuring our community is committed to the wellbeing and safety of all children.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Complaints processes: Ensure that processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
From time to time in any school, parents may have a concern or an issue about school life which they may need to resolve. The following steps outline the appropriate process to follow if you find yourself in this position.
Steps for Implementation:
Speak to the class teacher or specialist teacher concerned about your issue or problem. (If it is important, make an appointment so that teachers are not interrupted during valuable class time). Simple matters can usually be sorted out at this level.
If you are unable to find a satisfactory solution to your problem make an appointment to see the Principal/Deputy Principal to discuss the matter further.
Please note: At no time is it acceptable for a parent to directly confront another student as a means of resolving the issues they may have.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Child safety knowledge, skills and awareness: Ensure that staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Induct new staff and volunteers to child safety requirements
Deliver regular child safety briefings for all staff, for example, through staff meetings, newsletters or year-level briefings.
Maintain records of annual child safety programs, including presentation materials, agenda, minutes and list of attendees.
