All changes are made through the Office of Admission
The Office of Admission will review/approve the major change request and update Banner if appropriate.
Once the student has attended SLU 101, the major change must be posted on the Change of Major form (which is completed by the receiving advising office.)
This information can be accessed on the Major Change Spreadsheet (typically accessed by directors):
Admission Contact Number
Caitlin Mueller: (314) 985-9297
If you are meeting with one of your advisees who wants to change their major to something within your college, complete the Change of Major Form.
If you are meeting with a student who wants to change to a program in a different college:
If the new program has higher requirements, call or text Caitlin Mueller in Admission to determine if the student is admissible.
If the student is admissible, or if the admission requirements are the same, the advisor emails the person below:
Arts & Sciences - Pam Jackson
Business - Brittany Ludwig
Doisy College of Health Sciences (see note below) - Natalie Floeh
Nursing (see note below) - Natalie Floeh
Science & Engineering (see note below for Flight Science) - Jenn van Driest
CPHSJ - Kate O'Brien
Education - Jenn van Driest
Social Work - Pamela Jackson
The person above will contact the student with instructions for an advising appointment.
The new advisor/office will assign an advisor and complete the Change of Major Form.
After the Change of Major Form is completed, the Office of Admission & Registrar will change the student's major in Banner.
For Students Interested in Flight Science (Professional Pilot)
Students ARE NOT permitted to declare or change into the Aeronautics major-Flight Science concentration.
Advisors should refer students to Jenn van Driest (gchat is best for immediate response; then, jennifer.vandriest@slu.edu)
Students are always welcome to change to the Aeronautics major-Aviation Management concentration and inquire with Jenn van Driest about whether or not there is a Flight Science WAITLIST available. If a waitlist is available, to move off of it, a spot needs to open (there is no guarantee a spot will open), and the waitlisted student needs to have a current FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate (issued within the previous 12 months). It is highly recommended that students complete the medical examination as soon as possible, especially if they are given a spot on the waitlist, because it is common for certain health issues or prescribed medications to cause a delay of several months before the certificate is issued.
For Students Interested in the School of Nursing
Please note: true freshmen are not eligible to be admitted in the Spring term. Interested freshmen may apply as a major changer at the end of the Spring 2025 semester.
The Traditional BSN Program is OPEN, as long as interested students meet admission requirements. Advisors must contact Admissions (Caitlin Mueller or Natalie Benne) to confirm eligibility.
If a student comes to the Major Change Room with this request, the Admission rep will verify admissibility as soon as possible, but the student will be instructed to proceed with current major until it is confirmed.
If admitted, the student, current advisor, & Natalie Floeh will be notified by Admissions, and Natalie will connect the student with a Nursing advisor. The Nursing advisor will meet with the student and fill out the Major Change Google form.
If students are not admissible, but still interested, they can be advised to take classes like CHEM 1080/1085, PSY 1010, STAT 1100, ENGL 1900, and other core requirements like UQ: THEO, UQ: PHIL, EP: Oral & Visual Comm, Creative Expression, or WOT: AHC. They would be eligible to apply as a major changer at the end of the Fall semester, or consider the Accelerated BSN in the future.
For Students Interested in Doisy College
All Doisy programs are OPEN, as long as interested students meet admission requirements. Advisors must contact Admissions (Caitlin Mueller or Natalie Benne) to confirm eligibility.
If a student comes to the Major Change Room to request any of these majors:
For Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Exercise & Wellness, & Occupational Therapy, additional verification is required so the answer will take a little longer. The student will be instructed to proceed with current major until it is confirmed.
For all other Doisy programs, Admissions should be able to give an immediate answer.
If admitted, the student, current advisor, & Natalie Floeh will be notified by Admissions, and Natalie will connect the student with a Doisy advisor. The Doisy advisor will meet with the student and fill out the Major Change Google form.
If the student is not admissible, but still interested, they can be advised to take the necessary sciences/math/core classes connected with that major and plan to apply as a major changer at the end of the Fall semester. Some major courses may also be open to them - let Natalie Floeh know if you have questions!
