Enter SLU email address and select the testing language.
Students will receive an email with a link and instructions on completing the skills assessment.
Students should print or make a note of their results to discuss course placement and registration with their academic advisor.
Placement for Russian is completed via a quiz in the Course Placement site in Canvas.
Enrollment Recommendations
Whenever possible, please advise students to continue their language study during their first semester of study at SLU. This minimizes the time between language instruction at high school and SLU. A student who postpones study risks regressing in the language and having a more difficult time with material that has been forgotten. A student who regresses will also have to start at a lower level and require more courses to fulfill the language requirement.
Advise students to take their language courses back-to-back in a sequence. We have seen that students taking even a semester off between French 1020 and 2010 are at a great disadvantage academically than their classmates with a fresh 1020 experience. Again, minimize time between language courses.
Introductory LLC courses are intended for true beginners. A student with multiple years of language study should not be enrolled in a 1010 or 1020 level course. Diverse proficiency levels of students in any course render suitable instruction difficult, can be discouraging for actual beginners, and a misplaced student will experience no benefit from poor registration.
