UP - Unleashing Potential

Mission statement and objectives: Unleashing Potential, formerly Neighborhood Houses, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to close the opportunity gap for children and youth by building on their strengths. We create educational and empowering experiences through early childhood education, after school programs, youth development and enrichment camps.

Services and Opportunities

Target Population

Early Childhood education, after school programs, and family programs

Programs

Childcare Assistant: Help the teachers at our Early Childhood Education Center at Caroline Mission in the classrooms. You could be reading to the children, playing with them, or simply helping the teachers as needed.
- After School Care Assistant: You would be helping distribute the evening meal, helping with homework, helping with planned activities, or simply playing with the children. If you have a special skill such as dancing, organized sports, or chess and would like to lead a workshop while you are with us, we will make that happen!

Remote opportunities include:

- Database work (spreadsheets, etc.)
- Follow-up phone calls to families of our children
- Creation of individualized child packets for educational enrichment

Days/Times:

Childcare Assistant: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m..
After School Care Assistant: Monday - Friday, 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Site Visit Information

Mandatory Orientation for ALL TEAMS WORKING WITH UNLEASHING POTENTIAL SITES

Initial Orientation Visit (Zoom): Tuesday, Sept 16 at 4pm with Gloria Hampton

Zoom Link: Students will receive a Zoom link to the 9/16 at 4pm orientation meeting from their faculty advisor (length of time for this meeting is approximately 20 minutes)

Volunteer Forms will be distributed in class if necessary.

Initial Site Visit for Team working with Flynn Park: Tuesday, Sept 23 at 4pm; location Flynn Park Elementary

Initial Site Visit for Team working with Atlas: Tuesday, Sept 23 at 4pm; Location Atlas Charter School

Please discuss logistics (parking and entrance) with your faculty advisors.

Dress Code: Limited space to store items; bring minimal personal items. Discuss dress code with your site coordinator at first visit.
