The Gateway Region YMCA was founded on October 13, 1853, at the 2nd Baptist Church by 23 young men. Since then, the Y has been one of the leading health and human service organizations in the bi-state region. Today’s Y programs serve youth and teens, families, adults, seniors and communities throughout the Greater St. Louis and Southwest Illinois area.
Student projects address this.
Potential Project 1. Pre- and Post-Season Functional Assessments - Students run simple, fun movement assessments (balance, grip strength, flexibility, reaction time) at the start and end of a season. Provides measurable data for families on progress, while giving students practical assessment experience OR 2.Parent/Caregiver Education Nights at our practices where the students plan and host short sessions on topics like injury prevention, adaptive exercise, stress management, or healthy snack prep OR 3. Adaptive Coaching Toolkit where students create laminated quick-reference cards or short training videos for Miracle League and adaptive sports volunteers. The students could also cover communication tips, safe spotting, and modification ideas for various abilities.
