St. Cecilia's- After School Program

A SLU IPE 4900  Community Practicum Site

Mission

St. Cecilia School and Academy, in partnership with families, provides students an excellent Catholic education where each child can develop spiritually, intellectually, and socially for the glory of God.

IPE 4900

Agency Identified Goal

Student projects address this.

Initial Ideas shared - project topic will be finalized at initial visit. Focus on physical activity for students in K - 5th grade. Space is limited for after-school program. Student team to develop engaging and fun ideas for kids to participate in active movement in small spaces/energy buster activities. Also develop a list of resources for teachers and families of different activities centered around PA. Another potential project idea is related to St. Cecelia's goal of increasing student ownership of the after-school program. The IP team could survey students on how to do this and present report to Carla and other teachers/staff.

* Student population is primarily Hispanic and most children come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. All projects focused on kids should also include resources for parents and caregivers. These resources should be created in both English and Spanish.

Pre-Visit Requirements

In order to be in compliance, students must complete all five components of the safe environment program.  This includes the live PGC workshop, a background screening, two online modules, and agreeing to the Code of Ethical conduct.  Registration for the PGC workshop is done through the system.  Please see the instruction sheet below that walks through the process.

Please see the instruction sheet for more specifics on how to get registered. IPE has arranged for a workshop to be scheduled on Tuesday, Feb 8th during our class time at 4pm. You will receive the Zoom link to the PCG workshop when registered, or by clicking the “more info” link below the date on the site.

If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to Jessica Barreca at jessica.barreca@health.slu.edu.

Initial site visit will need to be scheduled before 3PM (not on Tuesdays). This visit can take place over Zoom or Google Meet with Carla as she is unable to meet while the after-school program is in session.

After the initial site visit, students will meet in-person (following completion of Protecting God's Children) between 3 - 6PM.
