Parent & Student Handbook Sign-off DUE Friday, August 29th 2025.
Textbooks and/or class novels for some courses are provided by the school, and are checked out through the school library. Students are responsible for taking care of the textbooks and/or novels, refraining from altering them in any way, keeping them clean and away from water and food, in order to avoid damages and stains.
Textbooks for concurrent classes are the responsibility of the student, and are listed on the syllabus of the college or university that offers the course.
Some courses require online textbooks, and the classroom teacher will provide students with an online access code.
When students are given their textbooks, they will complete a Textbook Condition Form, listing any damages that are not already noted on the inside back cover of the book. This will ensure that the student will not be charged for damages they didn’t cause.
For first-semester courses, Book Checks will be conducted when the books are turned into the Library. If any damages are noted, the student will be notified via email of the nature of the damage and of the amount that is owed. Payment is required before leaving for Christmas Break.
For year-long courses, a day is set aside for each grade level to have their textbooks checked for damages. Students will be notified of Book Check dates in advance, which usually take place in April. On that day, students are required to bring in all of their textbooks and/or class novels to the Library. Students may check the JDCHS Library Catalog (destiny.skaggscatholiccenter.org) for what is checked out to them.
If a student does not bring in all of their books to be checked, they are expected to bring the missing books to the Library within two weeks of their grade level’s Book Check to avoid a $20.00 Incomplete Book Check fee.
If a student is absent on their grade level’s Book Check day, they are expected to bring all of their textbooks and/or class novels to the Library within two weeks of that day, in order to avoid a $20.00 No Book Check fee.
Students are required to return their textbooks and/or class novels at their final semester exam, or as directed by the teacher. Students who do not return their textbooks will be placed on the Fines List, and their technology privileges may be revoked.
If a student loses a textbook, they will be charged the replacement cost of the book. If the book is found and returned at a later date, and is in acceptable condition, the student will be refunded all of their money.
