Adding Zoom Recordings To VoiceThread
Add your future or past Zoom recordings to VoiceThread.
Getting Started
Follow the instructions to add a VoiceThread to your course. You can choose to do graded or not graded VoiceThread. After you finish Step 6, return to this page.
For UnGraded/Individual VoiceThreads
After you create the link to your VoiceThread (following the instructions in the link under Get Started), go into the VoiceThread link and choose Individual VoiceThread. After that, be sure to click Create New VoiceThread (see screenshot at left).
At the next screen, choose Media Sources and then choose Zoom. From there, you can choose past or present Zoom meetings to add.
If you choose Future Meetings, you should see a listing of your upcoming meetings. If you click on an upcoming meeting, you can Preview or Import the meeting into your VoiceThread. When the meeting occurs, the video should import into your VoiceThread.
If you choose Past Meetings, you'll be brought to a listing of your recent recorded Zoom meetings. Find the one you want to use and click on it. From there, you can choose to Preview or Import. If you import the file, you will be prompted to go through the Thread Settings.
Be sure to look at the Playback Options and set them appropriately.
Once you're done with the Thread Settings, click the "X" icon in the top right to close the Media Sources window and to add comments to your VoiceThread.
When you do this, you should see your Zoom recording starting to populate. It may take a while for it to load, based on the size of the file.
For Graded VoiceThread Assignments (Watch or Comment)
After you create the link for the VoiceThread (following the instructions in the link under Get Started), click to go back into the VoiceThread and choose Assignment builder. On the next screen, choose which type of assignment you want to build. If you're using Zoom recordings, you would want to use the Comment or Watch types. Click Continue. On the Choose Content step, click the Create a new VoiceThread option in the top right.
On the Add media step, choose External Source. On the next window, choose Zoom.
In the Zoom menu, choose between Past Meetings or Future Meetings.
Note: using Zoom media requires you to record your Zoom content to the Zoom Cloud and not to your computer.
For Past Meetings:
Zoom will allow you to search among your recent recordings to upload.
Select Past Meetings and then navigate through the Previous Month folders to find the recording.
Click the file you want to use and select Import in the bottom right.
Once the file is uploaded, you should be brought back to the Assignment Builder screen and Step 3 of Adding Media.
From here, you can add additional media or click continue in the bottom left to move on to add any Comments.
For Future Meetings
Zoom will allow you to search for upcoming, scheduled meetings that are set to be recorded. Meetings should upload to VoiceThread after they finish uploading to the Zoom cloud.
Note: we have noticed that future meetings don't always seem to work. If you attempt to set this up and get an error message, you can always go back into your VoiceThread after the Zoom recording is done and add it via the Past Meetings option.
Select Future Meetings and navigate through your upcoming meetings
Click on a meeting and select Import in the bottom right.
Once the file is uploaded, you should be brought back to the Assignment Builder screen and Step 3 of Adding Media.
From here, you can add additional media or click continue in the bottom left to move on to add any Comments.
